When you’re with someone for an extended period of time, I believe that here is a mark burned onto each others hearts and souls. It’s a mark that will always be there. Even if the relationship ends, the mark may fade, but will never COMPLETELY go away. You can almost compare it to having a tattoo.
Maybe that’s why it hurts so much. Their mark has been imprinted on you and it’s so deep, it hurts being removed. But on the flip side, your mark is on them as well, so if you’re suffering, and wondering if they will feel your pain, I believe they will. It may not be right away, but it will. It’s a mark that never completely goes away.
One thing we HAVE to focus on is ourselves. Let the old mark fade. We worry so much about others, especially after rejection, that we lose ourselves in the process of grieving. We have to keep in mind is that we are strong, we are better than the current situation, we are going to be okay. And once things are okay, you can get a new tattoo…
“People always think that the most painful thing is losing the one you love in your life. The truth is, the most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, forgetting that you are special too”. – Unknown
